Best 3D HDTV – The Panasonic Viera TC-P50VT25

3D HDTVs are currently enjoying the spotlight, and Panasonic was one of the first companies to come up with one. One model, in particular – the Panasonic Viera TC-P50VT25 – has been getting a lot of attention, and it’s not hard to see why.

Design

Even at first glance, it’s easy to tell the TC-P50VT25 is out to differ from the rest of the crowd. Instead of the black bezel that has become the standard of HDTVs, it has a dark bronze one with silver strips lining the top and bottom edges, just before the gentle, black curve. There’s a tinge of silver on its oval stand, too, which offers swivel capability.

The clicker that accompanies it has a total of 50 keys, most of them backlit, and all laid out nicely. The on-screen menu has the same blue-on-yellow scheme as previous models, but now offers onscreen explanations as a bonus.

Screen/Picture Clarity

Put on your 3D glasses – which is included with the set – and you’ll get to experience spectacular images with a lot of depth and detail. Take them off and you’ll still be wowed by the 2D picture quality the TC-P50VT25 offers. Its black levels rival that of the best Plasmas, combined with very accurate colors and realistic shadow detail.

Its 96Hz refresh rate ensures the proper rendering of 1080p and 24p sources, while motion resolution is superb thanks to its 600Hz Sub-field drive, especially with the Blur Reduction setting engaged.

Features

To start off, the Viera TC-P50VT25 offers video streaming from Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand, along with widgets for Twitter, weather, stocks and sports, which you can arrange around the screen. This model is also equipped with Skype which allows you to call others or chat with them via your HDTV.

Picture settings are plenty enough, with gamma presets and a full color management system, while connectivity is also pretty good, consisting of four HDMI inputs, two component video inputs, two composite, a PC input, an SD card slot and two USB ports. For those worried about burn-in, there are features to prevent this, as well.

Earlier this year, the Panasonic TC-PVT25 series was awarded the Best of CES award and as far as we can see, it deserves every bit of it, which is why it is also the recipient of our “Editor’s Choice” award for Best 3D HDTV. It’s one of the best Plasma HDTVs we’ve seen, as well, so even without the 3D content, it’s still bound to add an extra dimension to your viewing experience.
